My name is Dr. Dusanka Armstrong, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor working at Cypress Counseling & Behavioral Center, proudly recognized as the Best Therapy Services in Cy-Fair.

We all have to navigate numerous challenges life presents. We can sometimes feel overwhelmed when facing multiple stressors, leading us to ignore them or ruminate excessively. This can result in feelings of anxiety, depression, self-doubt, frustration, and helplessness. Adverse childhood experiences and past traumas can significantly impact our well-being, relationships, and potential.
My goal is to help my clients live in the present. Too often, we become preoccupied with the past, overly focused on future, or bogged down by countless tasks, losing sight of what truly brings us joy and meaning. In therapy, I see myself as a fellow traveler on the journey my clients courageously embark on. I do not prescribe solutions because my clients are the experts of their own self; the answers are within their reach once we identify and remove the roadblocks—whether they are external influences or internal barriers.
Together, we work to eliminate these obstacles so you can engage in a more meaningful life. I aim to deepen your insight and self-awareness while encouraging you to take actionable steps based on that understanding. I want to help you experiment with new ways of being so that you can become the person you truly aspire to be.

My Story:

As a freshman in college, I decided to pursue degree in foreign languages even though I was more interested in mental health professions. In my country of origin there was no counseling degree as a unique discipline. Therapy, at that time, was in the realm of psychiatry, and available primarily to patients diagnosed with major mental health disorders.

Knowledge of other languages opened many doors for me, and I worked as an interpreter for the United Nations. I met individuals from over forty different countries and witnesses that many mental health challenges and difficulties were universal to all humans. I also witnessed how members of other cultures used their distinctive traditions and group values to help them manage distress and adverse events. Civil war in my country left many people struggling with the aftermath of various levels of trauma and in need of professional help, but the resources were scarce. I knew I wanted to be one of the professionals helping people who experienced various adverse events and exhausted their coping skills.

I met my husband while both of us were working for the UN. At the end of 1999 I came with him to Texas. It was not an easy decision to make but I will never regret becoming a Texan by marriage to a proud Texan. I enjoy living here and discovering something new about the mesmerizing history and lively culture of Texas and its friendly people. I love spending time outdoors with my dogs, or just watching deer, squirrels, and birds I feed every day on my property. My cats sit attentively in front of the window during the feeding time focused on the animals in the yard.

My Training & Approach:

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I provide therapy services to adults who present with trauma, depression, anxiety, relational issues, life stage difficulties and self-esteem challenges. My goal is to provide my clients with a safe and supportive environment that will foster mutual trust and productive collaboration. I integrate interventions form different approaches into my practice and use creativity to adapt my approach to the unique needs of each client.
I teach undergraduate and graduate classes in the counseling program, and I love sharing my knowledge and experience with the future counselors. I also supervise master’s level counseling students during their internship and feel tremendous joy and pride when they complete their coursework and begin their journey to full licensure.
During my training and later as a licensed counselor I provided services in community mental health, homeless shelter, and college counseling center. I collaborated with clients who were diagnosed with the most severe mental health disorders, experienced childhood trauma, relational problems, life stressors and self-esteem difficulties.
